Learning your way through cancer
K
nowledge is power in all situations. When facing a cancer diagnosis, treatment and survi-
vorship—the more you and your loved ones know, the better.
The educational classes and support groups hosted by the Cancer Empowerment & Re-
source Center at Shannon are open to people facing cancer and their family, friends and
caregivers. “We want to provide a bridge between the end of treatment and the new norm
in patients’ lives,” says Janie Torres, RN, OCN.
The meetings and classes provide straightforward information in a comfortable, confidential set-
ting. There is no charge to attend, and a referral is not needed.
Support groups
Cancer Warriors Men’s Support Group is open to all men in the community going
through cancer treatment or supporting a family member or friend with cancer. The group meets
on the first Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Cancer Empowerment & Resource Center.

a month for five classes.
The classes are held twice a month: on the first Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. and on the third
