ABC4WT
EVERY WOMAN
DESERVES
HIGH-QUALITY
BREAST CARE
ABC4WT IS NOT THE LATEST
text message acronym
or shorthand message. It stands for Access to Breast
Care for West Texas. Hundreds of West Texas women are
diagnosed with breast cancer each year. This program
was established because this disease does not wait, and
screening should not wait either.
It is recommended that women over the age of 40
receive regular breast cancer screenings. Long distances
and a small number of mammography facilities are a few
hindrances women of the Concho Valley may have to
overcome to gain access to important breast care services.
To help combat these obstacles, ABC 4 WT-Concho Val-
ley was established through a $1.12 million grant from the
Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas that
was awarded to the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s
Health at Angelo State University.
Heart of Texas Healthcare System in Brady, Lillian
M. Hudspeth Memorial Hospital in Sonora, San Angelo
Community Medical Center, Shannon Clinic, Shannon
Medical Center andWest Texas Medical Associates teamed
up with ABC 4 WT to provide breast care awareness to
the Concho Valley and breast cancer screening services
to women who otherwise would not be able to afford or
have access to mammogram technology.
NEED A MAMMOGRAM?
To be eligible to receive a free
mammogram, you must:
●
Be 40 or older.
●
Have no insurance coverage or insurance that does
not cover preventive health care.
●
Have proof of residence in the Concho Valley.
●
Have proof of income or assistance.
The counties of Coke, Concho, Crockett, Edwards,
Irion, Kimble, Mason, McCulloch, Menard, Reagan,
Schleicher, Sterling, Sutton and Tom Green constitute
the Concho Valley.
