2 HEALTH BEAT News Shannon Weight Loss Center earns national accreditation Shannon’s Weight Loss Center has been nationally accredited as a Comprehensive Center under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®), a joint program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).The designation acknowledges Shannon’s team has met the highest standards for patient safety and quality care.They are the only accredited Bariatrics Center in this region of Texas. Going for gold Shannon Clinic has received a GOLD TMF Physician Practice Quality Improvement Award for improving patient outcomes in high- priority clinical areas while apply- ing innovative strategies to advance quality health care. The team from Shannon is among more than 3,200 health care provid- ers in seven states and the territory of Puerto Rico to receive the award. The TMF Physician Practice Quality Improvement Award is based on the four categories of the Merit-based Incentive Payment System: Quality Measures, Promoting Interoperabil- ity, Improvement Activities and Cost/ Utilization. He then completed his internal medicine residency and a fellowship in infectious diseases at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
