Jay Ornelas, MD, OB-GYN
After receiving his
bachelor’s degree from Baylor
University in Waco, Dr. Ornelas
earned his medical degree from
the University of Texas Health
Science Center at Houston. He
then completed his obstetrics and
gynecology residency at the Texas
Tech University Health Sciences
Center in Lubbock.

David Vance, MD, anesthesiology
Dr. Vance
received his bachelor’s degree
from Abilene Christian University
and his medical degree from the
University of Texas Health Sci-
ence Center at San Antonio. He
then completed his internship in
general surgery and residency in
anesthesiology at the University
of Arizona in Tucson.

Sara Jackson-Vance, MD, emergency medicine
After receiving her nursing as-
sociate’s degree from Angelo State
University, Dr. Jackson-Vance
earned bachelor’s and master’s
degrees in nursing from the Uni-
versity of Texas Health Science
Center at San Antonio. She then
received her medical degree from
the University of Texas Health Sci-
ence Center at San Antonio. She completed her residency
in emergency medicine at the University of Arizona in
Tucson.

Scott Hodge, MD, emergency medicine
After
receiving his bachelor’s degree
from Southern Methodist Univer-
sity in Dallas, Dr. Hodge earned
his medical degree from the Uni-
versity of Texas Health Science
Center at San Antonio. He then
completed his internal medicine
internship at Naval Medical Cen-
ter Portsmouth in Virginia and his
emergency medicine residency at Naval Medical Center
San Diego.
Dr. Hodge is a retired veteran of the U.S. Navy. Enlisted
in 1981, he served three combat tours of duty and acted
as a medical officer and staff physician, most recently
working as an emergency physician at the U.S. Naval
Hospital in Agana Heights, Guam, and Guam Memorial
Hospital. He is board-certified in emergency medicine
by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.

Peggy Johnson, DO, urgent care
After receiv-
ing her bachelor’s degree from
Marshall University in Hunting-
ton, W.Va., Dr. Johnson earned
her medical degree from the
Ohio University Heritage Col-
lege of Osteopathic Medicine in
Athens, Ohio. She then completed
her family medicine residency
through the Bay Area Family
Practice Residency Program in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Dr. Johnson is board-certified in family medicine. She

Randy Martinez , DO, sports medicine
Dr. Martinez received his bach-
elor’s degree from the University
of Texas of the Permian Basin in
Odessa and his master’s degree
from the University of North Texas
Health Science Center in Fort
Worth. He then earned his medi-
cal degree from the Edward Via
College of Osteopathic Medicine
in Blacksburg, Va. He completed his residency at Valley
Baptist Family Practice in Harlingen, Texas.
Dr. Martinez completed his sports medicine fellowship
through the University of Oklahoma Primary Care Sports
Medicine Fellowship program in Tulsa, Okla., and speaks

Hernan Zarate, MD, pulmonary disease
Dr. Zarate received his undergrad-
uate and medical degrees from the
Universidad Peruana Cayetano
Heredia in Lima, Peru. He then
completed his internal medicine
residency and pulmonary and
critical care fellowship at Einstein
Medical Center in Philadelphia.
Dr. Zarate is board-certified in
internal medicine and pulmonary disease by the American
Board of Internal Medicine and is fluent in Spanish. His

Scott Lindsey, APRN, MSN, FNP-BC, internal
medicine
After receiving his bachelor of nursing
degree from the University of
Phoenix, Lindsey earned his
master of nursing degree from
the University of Texas Health
Science Center at San Antonio.
As a family nurse practitioner, he
provides advanced nursing care to
patients of all ages with acute and
chronic health conditions.
Lindsey comes to Shannon Clinic from the San Angelo
State Supported Living Center and has 13 years of experi-
ence in primary, long-term and psychiatric care. He joins
the practice of Walter Hewell, MD, internal medicine, at
