J
oin us for this event, presented by the Ameri-
can Heart Association and Shannon Medical
Center. Breakout sessions will take place at
11 a.m. and will feature fitness experts and
health professionals who will give you steps
to take today for better heart health. They
promise to be educational as well as fun!
Comedienne Jan McInnis will provide the keynote address. The
event will also include a “purseonality” purse silent auction and
exhibit booths.
This is the eighth year for Shannon to sponsor the luncheon,
which encourages women to learn about their risk of heart disease
and to take action to reduce their personal risk. Samia Benslimane,
MD, Shannon Clinic cardiologist, will speak at the event again this
year.
“With heart disease being the No. 1 killer of women, education
and screening are the keys to prevention,” Dr. Benslimane says. “In-
formation given at Go Red for Women could save your life or the
life of someone dear to you. Attend, get informed, spread the word
and get screened!”
Tickets are $30 each and will be available through the end of
January. To purchase tickets or get answers to your questions,

THE COLD TRUTH
Do
you know that you can
freeze raw eggs? Break
and lightly blend them,
pour into freezer-safe
containers, and label with the date and num-
ber of eggs. Frozen, they’ll keep for a year.

TAKE TIME TO CHILL
Stress can take its toll
on people with diabetes. It can quickly cause
blood sugar to spike or fall. It also can over-
whelm and derail wellness plans, which can
affect blood sugar too. If you have diabetes,
it’s important to make managing stress a part
of your overall goals.

PASS THE PASTA!
The
fiber content in whole-
grain pasta is about three
times higher than in traditional
pasta. Follow cooking instructions
carefully because overcooking these
pastas can make them mushy.
